Success Mantra for cracking PMP!

One of my friend Cracked PMP recently

This is what he thinks…

Learning Strategy

  • I skimmed PMBOK® once and read the study notes provided by IT Education Centre 3 times.
  • I bought PMP® Exam Prep: Rita’s Course in a Book for Passing the PMP® Exam and read all the chapters from cover to cover and finish all chapter end questions. This book gives me a more deep view of project management concepts and provides the very helpful exam tips.
  • Tried to understand the relationships among all the ITTOs and brain-dumped out Rita’s planning process chart.
  • Need to memorize all the important formulas including 3-Points Estimate, EVM, EAC Forecasting, TCPI, EMV, Communication Channels and Floats calculation. Make a brain dump of the formulas.
  • Attempted different Mock Exams from PM Study, Head First, PM Exam Simulator, Edwel Mock Exam. I found that the quality of questions and answers by PM Study is good enough for preparing the real exam and its question format is very close to real exam. Thus, after finishing the free practice Test 1, I purchased the paid tests (Test 2, 3, 4).

PMP® Exam Lessons Learned

  • Someone said that if you scored consistently above 80% from mock exams, you should successfully pass the real exam. In my case, I could only get the scores between 70% and 80%. But, I still passed the PMP® exam with 3 Proficient and 2 Moderately Proficient.
  • There are quite a lot of questions coming from “Human Resource Management”. You need to remember the stages of team building (forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning).
  • Most of the questions are situational questions.
  • Not too many calculation questions.
  • It is not necessary to memorize the ITTOs.
